The woman's son reported the attack on Thursday.
When the emergency services arrived at the scene, she was so badly injured that no life-saving measures were taken. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Poland's brown bear population is estimated to consist of around 100 individuals, about 80 percent of them living in and around the Bieszczady Mountains in the country's southeast, where Thursday's attack occurred.
However, fatal bear attacks are extremely rare. The last time a bear killed a human in the country was in 2014, according to local media.
