We have initiated a preliminary investigation into arson in order to find out what caused the fire. At this time we do not know, Robin Grimland, commander at the police regional command center, told the newspaper.
The fire was reported late Friday night. Rescue services, ambulances and police were called to the scene. Smoke spread to the stairwell, but none of the other residents in the building needed to be evacuated, according to the Public Health Office.
