We received a call from a woman at 22.46 that she had found a woman in her stairwell in central Örebro, severely beaten and bloody with serious injuries, says Maths Thörn, duty officer at the police in region Bergslagen.

When the police arrived at the scene, the woman, who is in her 40s, stated that she had been held captive in the basement and had been assaulted for several hours and that the man, who is in his 50s, might still be in the basement where the assault took place.

We searched the basement and found the crime scene, but arrested the man an hour later at another location, says Maths Thörn.

The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
