We received a call from a woman at 22.46 that she had found a woman in her stairwell in central Örebro, severely beaten and bloody with serious injuries, says Maths Thörn, duty officer at the police in region Bergslagen.

When the police arrived at the scene, the injured woman, who is in her 40s, told them that she had been held captive in the basement and had been assaulted for several hours.

There were some investigative measures taken and eventually, a man who could be suspected was caught, says Lars Hedelin, press spokesperson at the police.

The man, who is in his 35s, was arrested at another location after an hour. He has been detained on suspicion of aggravated assault and unlawful deprivation of liberty.

The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
