The fire broke out in June in a house on Öland. The woman who lived in the house was newly operated on and could not get out by herself. After she alerted 112, she was in contact with the alarm center for 36 minutes. She appealed for help and told how it was crackling around her and then that it had started burning in her bed.

Did not take in

For 20 minutes of the conversation, the rescue service was outside her house, but the commander on site could not take in the information from the alarm center that the woman was alive, the investigation shows.

They see a building with fully developed fire where it is burning out through all the windows, parts of the roof have collapsed and part of a wall has collapsed. Their picture then becomes that it is impossible for anyone to be alive there, says rescue chief Rutger Ekbrand to Barometern.

Therefore, the information was not passed on to the other rescue personnel either, and no one checked the side of the house where the woman's bedroom was located, where the vegetation was dense, the newspaper reports.

Incorrect loop

"The commander got stuck in an incorrect thought loop that it was impossible for a person to be alive in the villa", the investigator writes in the internal report.

Ekbrand tells the newspaper that it is a very tragic event. The investigator has 13 proposals for measures, including when it comes to training of commanders and management personnel.
