A passerby found the woman lifeless in a ditch by a road on Thursday evening. A bicycle that police suspect belonged to her was also found nearby.
The police believed they had an idea of which vehicle had hit the woman and on Friday morning the car was found in Mariestad, the police told Aftonbladet .
"We worked on this case during the night and managed to identify the vehicle. At 4 a.m., this car was found and has now been seized," says Mårten Gunneng, duty officer at the police in Region West, to the newspaper.
The man believed to have driven the car was brought in for questioning and is now in custody, the police wrote on their website. He is suspected of aggravated manslaughter and leaving the scene of a traffic accident.
