A wolf has killed several reindeer in the grazing area of the Vittangi Sami village. The Norrbotten County Administrative Board has approved a protective hunt for the wolf, reports Jakt & Jägare.

The application for protective hunting was made last Thursday after reindeer herders found more than 30 dead reindeer and fresh wolf tracks.

Staff from the county administrative board have been on site and assessed that there is no other suitable solution than protective hunting.

Hunting may be conducted 24 hours a day within a designated area and may be carried out from a helicopter. Lighting may also be used.

The decision on protective hunting is valid until January 30th.
