He believes he has been lucky despite the misery because two of three phases are still working in his house.
We have electricity here and there, and we have a wood stove we can burn to get the heat going.
It's worse for the neighbor who lost all power and had to put food in Markku's refrigerator.
"We had eight degrees upstairs and 14 downstairs on New Year's Eve," says the neighbor, who wishes to remain anonymous.
He realized something had gone "really wrong" when he heard a crash on Saturday, December 27.
At first he didn't dare go out during Storm Johannes, but once he did, he saw that trees had fallen in droves - even onto a house on his property.
You could hear it just falling and cracking. It was banging everywhere. It was around four o'clock on Saturday. We've been without power since then.
Buried power lines
Lars Landström, who also lives in Ockelbo, has been without power for the same amount of time.
He initially thought it would only take a few days to fix it, but after Storm Anna dumped several decimeters of snow and buried the fallen power lines, he expects it could take a few more days.
In the evenings it is pitch black. Then flashlights are the order of the day. We have a wood-burning stove in the living room. It is difficult to keep the whole house warm, but we manage," he says.
But he needs to go to his mother's regularly to charge his phone and take a shower.
And I got a cable from the neighbor so I can have the freezer and fridge running. Most of it has gone to hell, but what to do?
I try to think about those who have been without power for years because of the war. But what happened here is of course also sad. You thought you would have some time off.
Worst affected
Gävleborg is the worst affected of the counties where the energy company Ellevio operates.
Previously, you could quickly get an overview of power lines that had ended up on the slope, but after Storm Anna it is difficult. What previously ended up on the slope is now under snow," says Jonatan Björck, communications manager at Ellevio.
Customers who have been without power for an extended period of time have been offered compensation to stay in hotels.
"This applies to customers who were affected by the storms," says Björck.
