When police arrived at the scene, a 35-year-old man was arrested. He has now been detained on suspicion of attempted arson and vandalism, among other things.

According to Blekinge Läns Tidning, two men were in the square in Sölvesborg and shouted Nazi slogans during the night.

The Social Democrats call the incident a "Nazi arson attack."

"It's not just an attack on our party premises in Sölvesborg. It's an attack on Swedish democracy as a whole," says party secretary Tobias Baudin in a written comment.

In an email to TT, Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer writes that the Ministry of Justice is following developments and that "all violent extremism must be taken very seriously."
