Barbora Krejcikova caused an upset and won Wimbledon earlier this summer, but in the US Open, the Czech player was brought back down to earth again. Already in the second round, Krejcikova was knocked out of the year's final Grand Slam tournament.
Romanian qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse won with 6–4, 7–5.
Oh, my god. I have no words right now. It's just a dream for me, says Ruse after the upset victory in New York.
Eighth-seeded Krejcikova reached the quarterfinals in the Olympic Games tennis in Paris but had not played any tournament on hardcourt before the US Open. She withdrew from the planned rehearsal in Toronto due to injury problems.
