Willie Kirk Named New Coach for Crisis-Hit Linköping in Damallsvenskan

It will be Willie Kirk who replaces the sacked Jonne Kunnas as coach for Damallsvenskan runner-up Linköping. The 47-year-old Scot has previously, among other things, coached Everton and Leicester in the English Super League.

”Willie's experience is something we believe will be crucial for us ahead of the autumn's challenge”, says Mia Eriksson, sports manager in LFC.

Kirk is set on saving the crisis-ridden Östergötland club in the top division.

”We have a talented squad that has much more to show than what they have done so far. It's sticking your neck out, but I want everyone to understand that this player squad, with the quality that exists, should not be second to last in this league”, he says to the club's website.

Linköping has taken three Swedish Championship gold medals (2009, 2016 and 2017), but this season has only scraped together five points in twelve matches in the women's top division.
