The American tennis sisters, 44 and 46 years old respectively, have not played singles or doubles at the US Open since 2022. They won the doubles tournament in 1999 and 2009.

They were supposed to make a comeback at a Grand Slam at Wimbledon, but younger sister Serena injured her knee in her singles match, which she lost, and the sisters were forced to withdraw from doubles.

Serena Williams played mixed doubles at the US Open in New York together with Carlos Alcaraz and was eliminated in the second round on Tuesday.

The doubles tournament at Flushing Meadows starts on September 3.
