In early July, Poromaa broke his ankle in a fall during a roller-skiing session in Sundsvall.

Now he is speaking to reporters about the ordeal for the first time.

"I fell forward and landed on a bent leg. Then my ankle broke. I jumped 400 metres and called an ambulance," Poromaa said at a press conference during the national ski team's camp in Torsby.

The first two weeks were tough. Then you started to be able to walk, ride a stationary bike, and ride a bike.

Did this winter's home World Cup come to mind when it happened?

It absolutely did. Not that it was over, but that the path to get there won't be the way I had planned.

By the end of this week, Poromaa hopes to roller-ski again for the first time since the accident.

Then we'll see and take it day by day, but it shouldn't be that far away before I can go skiing for real.

How does it feel now?

A little stiff. The balance is a little off. But it's been three days without the boot and it still feels good.
