Amateur Veronica Maggio, record-breaking Tarik Saleh, and Hammarby's vote coup. Here are the talking points ahead of Monday's Guldbagge gala, when Swedish film will be honored.

Will Veronica Maggio be the queen of the gala?

Last year, the Guldbagge jury stopped amateurs from even being nominated for Sweden's finest film award. That criticized rule was quickly abolished, and this year, "amateur" Veronica Maggio could ironically become the queen of the gala, taking home two awards - as an actress in her debut role and for her first script for the film the pop star co-wrote with director Andreas Öhman. Their romantic thriller "7 Steps" could also be the film of the year.

Is "Eagles of the Republic" setting records?

At the gala two years ago, “The Scapegoat” received seven awards, which was a record. This year, “Eagles of the Republic” is nominated in a total of eleven categories. Perhaps a record to take with a pinch of salt, since it is only in recent years that the Guldbagge Gala has been expanded to include awards for the less glamorous professional roles behind the scenes. But the fact remains that Tarik Saleh’s political thriller could succeed better than “The Scapegoat” and, among other things, win awards for best film, best direction and best male lead for Fares Fares.

Hammarby's voting coup.

In the Guldbagge Audience Award category, which was decided by a vote held by Aftonbladet, the finalists are the children's favorite "Bert sabbar allt", the audience success "The Film about Siw" (Malmkvist) and... "Gröna linjen", a documentary with a limited theatrical release, mainly in Stockholm's southern suburbs. Perhaps the fact that the film depicts Hammarby supporters, including country star David Ritschard, has boosted the voting? Is that enough for a Guldbagge?

The man who knows he will win.

Anders Nyman can sit calmly in his armchair at Cirkus in Stockholm. He receives the Guldbaggen for best visual effects. We know this because as project manager for the company Dupp from Karlsborg, he is nominated - in different constellations - for all three films that have a chance of winning in the category: “Movements”, “The Crown Prince and the Tyrant’s Return” and “Eagles of the Republic”.

No minister on the red carpet

The Minister of Culture usually comes to this year's Swedish Film Festival, but Parisa Liljestrand (M), who is on a collision course with the industry, has declined this year.

The Guldbagge Gala will be broadcast live on Monday starting at 8 p.m. on SVT, with Shima Niavarani as host. Almost half of the awards will be presented at the pre-gala, which will also be broadcast on SVT Play starting at 6:30 p.m.
