"We are more than happy to bring Eurovision to Broadway. The musical scene is a perfect place to continue our celebration of everything we love about this fantastic and unifying song contest", says Ferrell in a statement.
In the 2020 film, Ferrell and Rachel McAdams played the Icelandic musicians Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdottir who get the chance to represent their country in the world's most famous song contest.
The film's theme song "Husavik (My Hometown)", written by Max ”Fatmax Gsus” Grahn, Rickard Göransson and Savan Kotecha, was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song 2021. Molly Sandén sang the song under her alter ego "My Marianne".
No premiere date for the musical, which is still in the "development stage", has been announced.
