The fire started on Wednesday. Shortly after 9 am on Thursday morning, control over the fire was lost.

We are continuing with the operation, right now we are doing personnel changes, those who have worked hard during the day will be replaced by new fresh firefighters. We have about 50 men on site, says Pär Stensson, rescue chief at the rescue service Östra Kronoberg.

The County Administrative Board's conservation fire concerned 50 hectares, but after the rescue service's helicopter flights, the fire is estimated to have spread over an additional 10-12 hectares.

We are starting to get close to having surrounded the fire. We are starting to get a pretty good gut feeling now, says Stensson.

According to Stensson, the extinguishing work is still expected to continue until Friday morning.

The surface is the same but the operation will be a little smaller. Now it's about making sure we have the fire perimeter completely and entirely around the entire fire, which we think we have.

The County Administrative Board, which made the decision to carry out the conservation fire, has an organization that will take care of the follow-up monitoring.

Maybe they will have to reinforce it, I think, said the rescue chief earlier on Thursday.

It is doubtful whether this was a good decision, he continued.

Conservation fires are carried out to promote biological diversity. However, it requires careful monitoring, according to P4 Kronoberg which has reported on the fire.
