The fire is burning in the terrain in Hylte municipality in Halland and the extinguishing work is expected to continue throughout the weekend. However, the fire is considered to be under control and the VMA, important message to the public, has been lifted, reports SVT Halland.
During a press conference on Friday evening, it emerged that a peat-cutting machine at a peat extraction site in Kråkeryd is likely to have caused the fire.
Due to the wind, the fire spread quickly and the intense smoke development made the work difficult and spread towards Halmstad. That's why we issued a VMA, said Magnus Åman, rescue chief of Hylte municipality.
In total, 77 units from, among others, Halland, Jönköping, and Älvsborg have been present during the work, and four helicopters have assisted with water bombing.
According to the VMA issued, the smoke spread with the wind in the area from Hyltebruk to the coast around Halmstad, and the public was urged to stay indoors behind closed doors and windows.
A review of all care was also made in the municipality, and in case evacuation became necessary.
