After Friday's sharp stock market decline, some of the major indices in Asia are recovering.

Several stock markets in Asia fell sharply last week. Morning trading on Monday has been less dramatic, although the indices have moved in different directions.

The Hong Kong-based Hang Seng is rising and was up 1.4 percent at noon. The South Korean Kospi is also climbing and was up 0.7 percent at the same time.

The Shenzhen and Shanghai stock exchanges continue to fall and are down 0.6 and 0.3 percent respectively.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange is closed due to a public holiday.
