Global sales of white snus more than doubled in 2024 compared to the previous year.
WHO accuses the tobacco giants that manufacture white snus of using "aggressive" marketing aimed at young people, often on social media. The report concludes that the health risks of nicotine are not being sufficiently disclosed and urges governments to address the problem and begin regulating the market.
White snus is popular in Sweden, across much of Europe and the United States, and its use is rapidly increasing in Pakistan.
