The message is given in a post on X, addressed "to civilians in Gaza". WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus states that "WHO is shocked by the latest evacuation order”.

The UN estimates that around one million Palestinians live in and around Gaza City, and the WHO chief states that the Israeli demand for the population to move to what Israel describes as a "humanitarian zone" in southern Gaza is unfeasible.

"The zone has neither the size nor the scope of services needed to support those who are already there, let alone new people who come there", he states.

Israel's military has intensified its attacks on the city, and the country has the goal of taking it over.
