Several hospitals were attacked by Iranian security forces during the brutal suppression of protests in the country. Doctors remain imprisoned. The information has been confirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Healthcare workers were injured in attacks, and several doctors were arrested while treating injured patients, according to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

"I demand that healthcare workers in captivity be released. Healthcare workers should never be subjected to threats," said the WHO director on X.

The UN agency's confirmation of attacks on hospitals comes at a time when little independent information is reaching Iran, where the internet has been shut down and reprisals are targeting those who testify to the outside world about the situation.

Witnesses have said that many sought treatment outside hospitals due to the risk of arrest.
