There is currently no vaccine or treatment for the Bundibugyo Ebola variant, which is causing the outbreak in Congo-Kinshasa and Uganda.
Two possible vaccine candidates against the variant are currently being developed, but neither has yet undergone clinical trials, according to WHO advisor Vasee Moorthy, an infectious disease physician.
Based on what they now know, "It will probably take six to nine months" before the vaccine is available, Moorthy said on Wednesday, the BBC reports.
