WHO Declares Mpox No Longer a Global Health Crisis

The World Health Organization announced on Friday that mpox, previously known as monkeypox, no longer constitutes a global public health crisis.

WHO Declares Mpox No Longer a Global Health Crisis

The news comes after a continued decrease in cases and deaths in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other affected countries.

Lifting the emergency declaration does not mean that the threat is over, and nor does it mean that our efforts will cease, said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at a press conference.

This after deciding to lift the UN health agency's highest emergency status for mpox, which was introduced more than a year ago.
