The white truffle from Piedmont in northwestern Italy is one of the world's most sought-after. Sunday's auction drew gourmets from as far away as China, Singapore and Brazil via link.
And the highest bid was three specimens of the white truffle, sometimes called the Alba truffle. It was a buyer in Hong Kong who offered the sum of 110,000 euros.
The underground mushrooms are harvested every autumn in Piedmont. White truffles in good condition can fetch a price of 3,500 euros per kilo, while black truffles are priced at a more modest 500 euros.
The truffle auction in Alba has been held annually for almost a century.
