White House staff warned not to use inside information to bet on prediction markets such as Polymarket

White House employees are now being warned not to use inside information to bet on various political and economic events, such as the war in Iran.

According to the Wall Street Journal, employees were informed via email about the ban on placing bets on so-called prediction markets such as Polymarket, which have grown significantly in the United States.

In recent weeks, there have been reports of sharp movements in the crude oil futures market just 15 minutes before President Donald Trump announced an extended deadline in the conflict with Iran. In addition, three users on Polymarket reportedly made hundreds of thousands of dollars after correctly betting on a ceasefire in the war.

Several Democrats have now raised the issue and want a ban on betting on war-related events.
