White House condemns suspicious oil trading ahead of Trump's announcement

The White House says it will not tolerate any form of insider trading. The statement follows reports of unusual oil trading shortly before Donald Trump's announcement that attacks on Iranian energy facilities had been halted.

About fifteen minutes before Trump's remarks on Monday, which caused oil prices to temporarily plunge 14 percent, trading volume for oil contracts increased sharply, according to data obtained by the BBC.

Some analysts believe that the unusual activity could mean that the deals were made with knowledge of the decision.

A White House spokesperson told the Financial Times that they "will not tolerate any administration official illegally profiting from inside information."
