Busfield surrendered to local authorities in New Mexico last week, following allegations that he had sexually assaulted two boys during the filming of a television series he directed and produced.
The prosecution had requested that 68-year-old Busfield remain in custody. When the court announced his release from custody, his wife, "Little House on the Prairie" star Melissa Gilbert, broke down in tears.
Busfield, who is best known for his role as Danny Concannon in the television series "The West Wing," denies the allegations of sexual assault.
