In the survey, a full 97 percent of those surveyed said they could swim. However, when it comes to the established definition of swimming ability - being able to swim 200 meters, 50 meters of them on the backstroke - the figure is 81 percent.
The highest proportion of people who can swim is in Uppsala County, where 90 percent of those surveyed said they could swim. Västra Götaland comes in second place with 87 percent.
The lowest is Jämtland County, where 70 percent could swim. On Gotland, 74 percent could swim.
The survey was conducted by Verian and is based on responses from 3,300 randomly selected people from the Sifo panel.
