A 25-year-old woman has been found dead after a search operation in Salem, southwest of Stockholm. Two people have been arrested; one is suspected of murder. This is what we know about the incident.

The police received a report of a missing woman on Boxing Day, when she did not return home during the night. The alert came from a relative.

An extensive search of Rönninge and surrounding areas was launched on Friday. After a number of findings were made in connection with the case, a preliminary investigation into kidnapping was opened.

Dogs, quad bikes, helicopters and drones were used in the search.

The police also initiated a so-called rescue service, which meant that civilian volunteers were deployed in the search effort. Among others, the voluntary organization Search and Rescue (SAR) participated.

At a press conference on Sunday, the police announced that the woman had been found dead on Saturday evening. She was found during an operation targeting a suspect, and the crime classification was then changed to murder. The police would not say where the woman was found.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the case. They were arrested at different times and locations.

One person is being held on probable-cause suspicion of murder. The other person is being held on reasonable suspicion, the lower level of suspicion, for kidnapping.

According to Aftonbladet, one of the people is already known to the police.

By 12 noon on Tuesday, the prosecutor must decide whether the two suspects should be remanded in custody or released.

Corrected: A previous version contained incorrect information about when prosecutors must decide on detention.
