When Marius Borg Høiby appears in court on Tuesday, it will be the first time in Norwegian history that a person with such close ties to the royal family has been charged in a criminal case. Here's what happened:

August 4, 2024: Police are alerted during the night to a violent incident at an address in the Frogner district of central Oslo. Marius Borg Høiby's then-girlfriend was beaten and her apartment was vandalized. A knife was stuck in the wall and a crystal chandelier was knocked to the floor. The woman had visible head injuries and a concussion.

August 6: Borg Høiby was arrested, suspected of assaulting a woman with whom he had a relationship.

August 7: Crown Prince Haakon speaks out about the allegations against Marius, calling them serious.

August 14: Borg Høiby admits in a statement to NRK that he used violence against his girlfriend and wants to take responsibility for his actions. He says that he had used alcohol and cocaine at the time and that he has struggled with addiction for a long time.

During the late summer and autumn of 2024, more suspicions about him emerged. Borg Høiby's name was removed from several pages on the Norwegian court's website. Aftenposten revealed that two former girlfriends informed the Crown Prince couple as early as 2023 about the violence he had subjected them to.

November 18: Borg Høiby was arrested on suspicion of rape and breach of a restraining order against a former girlfriend. In connection with the arrest, the police searched his home on the Crown Prince and Princess's estate, Skaugum, outside Oslo.

November 20: Borg Høiby was remanded in custody for a week.

During the winter and spring of 2025, Borg Høiby was accused of additional crimes. He was suspected of rape, vandalism and violation of a restraining order, among other offenses.

August 18, 2025: Marius Borg Høiby was charged with 32 crimes, four of which were rapes. He was also charged with assaulting a former partner and filming the private parts of several women without their knowledge or consent.

January 19, 2026: He was charged with two additional crimes, including drug offenses in which Borg Høiby is alleged to have received at least 3.5 kilograms of cannabis in July 2020 that he transported and handed over to a person in Tønsberg. He was also charged with violating a restraining order. Høiby pleaded guilty to the crimes.

February 1: Marius Borg Høiby was arrested in his apartment and was remanded in custody the following day for four weeks on suspicion of assault, threats with a knife and violation of a restraining order following events that, according to police, occurred over the weekend.
