Heidi Weng knows what Linn Svahn is going through. That's why she breaks down when the Swede is mentioned. She must be careful, says the Norwegian cross-country star.

It's not just the Swedish national team teammates who feel for Linn Svahn, who was forced to go home from the World Championship with a concussion before the championship had even begun.

Norwegian star Heidi Weng reacts strongly when she, at Friday's press conference, ahead of the weekend's skiathlon, is asked how she received the news about Svahn.

I must admit that I started crying. And I'm sure I will now too, says Weng as her voice cracks and her eyes tear up.

The 33-year-old Norwegian has previously told about how she herself suffered from long-term problems due to a concussion, including a daily life marked by constant headaches.

So I sincerely hope she takes it easy now in the beginning, says Weng as she struggles to hold back tears.

It's not meant to be so emotional, but she must be as cautious as possible the first few days. I wish this on no one, and I really looked forward to seeing Linn at the World Championship.

Svahn fell badly during a training session earlier in the week and hit her head so badly that it was ruled out to compete at all.

The great risk is if she crashes again, it can have fatal consequences, so it's not an option to expose herself to such a risk. It can cause problems that last for a long time, said Swedish national team doctor Rickard Noberius about the decision.
