Accident

Water has penetrated the ship that is stranded in the Öresund off Malmö. As a precaution, environmental rescue services have been initiated, writes the Coast Guard in a press release.

Large parts of the hull are now on a mixture of sand and stone after the grounding early on Sunday morning. Water has penetrated a ballast tank. The hull has been affected, but otherwise the ship is deemed fully functional.

The 93-meter-long foreign-flagged ship was on its way from Gdansk in Poland to Setúbal in Portugal, loaded with scrap. One man is detained, suspected of gross negligence in maritime traffic.

There is currently no prognosis for when the ship can be towed loose. First, the owner must present a plan to the Transport Agency and the Coast Guard.
