The US Treasury Department continues to ease some of the sanctions against Russian oil company Lukoil. Sanctions have been aimed at Russian interests due to Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine.

The Treasury Department, which is responsible for US sanctions as a policy tool, announced on Thursday that gas stations linked to Lukoil, but operating outside of Russia, will be exempted from the sanctions regime. The decision extends previous exemptions.

However, the entities will not be allowed to send money to Russia, according to the US Treasury Department.

The United States has imposed several sanctions on Russia since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. President Donald Trump strengthened sanctions against Lukoil, among others, in October.
