The warning comes from the industry association ACI Europe, which represents airports in the EU. In documents seen by the Financial Times, EU Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas warned that a “shortage of aviation fuel is becoming a reality for the EU.”
An incipient shortage comes at an especially inopportune time ahead of the spring and summer seasons when demand for air travel traditionally increases sharply. Some Asian countries, such as Vietnam, have already been forced to implement rationing of jet fuel.
