It is half a degree warmer than the previous record from 1983 and a whole 2.8 degrees above the average temperature in November between 1991 and 2020, according to the weather authority Aemet, which has kept statistics for over 60 years.
The month was also very dry, with about 40 percent lower humidity than normal. This despite Spain being hit by enormous amounts of rain at the turn of the month.
The downpours, which started at the end of October, resulted in deadly flooding in Valencia. Roads and railways were washed away, agricultural land was devastated, and countless homes and business premises became unusable. At least 230 fatalities have been confirmed and the cleanup work is still ongoing.
