The sale of clothes and shoes increased in May, according to the Swedish Trade Style Index. Clothing sales increased by 4.6 per cent, while shoe sales increased by 7.2 per cent compared to the same month last year.
Swedish Trade notes that the temperatures in May were the highest since 2018, and links the sales increases to the fine weather, in combination with preparations for upcoming graduation parties and holidays.
Sofia Larsen, CEO of Swedish Trade, states that May is one of the most important months for the fashion trade.
"Although the economic situation for many households is still tough, many have nevertheless chosen to replenish their wardrobes ahead of the summer. In our conversations with retailers, it is also clear that the physical store continues to play an important role," she says in a press release.
