A Swedish man suspected of incitement to murder, aggravated assault and other offenses has been arrested in Cairo, police wrote on their website.

The 23-year-old man was born in Lebanon, but is a Swedish citizen. He had been internationally wanted on an Interpol Red Notice and had been arrested in absentia.

Interpol in Cairo announced on Sunday that the man had been arrested. He arrived in Sweden on Friday evening.

The man is suspected of incitement to murder and two counts of aggravated assault. The police said that he was one of the ringleaders in the wave of violence that has seen several shootings, explosions and serious weapons crimes in Örebro over the past year.

Prosecutor Mats Ihlbom told NA that the 23-year-old is believed to be behind the murder at a mosque in Örebro in August 2025.

"We suspect that he had a role in instigating the murder at the mosque from another country," Ihlbom told the newspaper.

A new detention hearing will be held in Örebro District Court "shortly", according to the police.
