Want revenge in the World Championship: "Extremely important"

The disappointment over a missed final spot in Four Nations sparked a desire for revenge in Tre Kronor. Ahead of the Olympic Games – but also the home World Championship in May. I think it's extremely important that everyone who has the opportunity goes there, says team captain Victor Hedman about the World Championship.

His message was adopted by several players afterwards.

Many want to come to the World Championship in Stockholm in May if their NHL season is over and they are injury-free.

I'm hoping that my body holds up and things fall into place. I had a lot of fun last year, I think it's going to be even more fun this year, says star defenseman Erik Karlsson, who was part of the team that took bronze in the Czech Republic last spring.

There is a hunger for gold in Tre Kronor after all the disappointments in recent years. The last major championship title was the World Championship gold in 2018.

"Continue to build"

In addition, a journey to the Olympic Games in Milan next year has already begun at last year's World Championship, when several players from the Four Nations team were involved.

We need to continue building on the things we've worked on both at the World Championship in the Czech Republic and during this tournament. It's extremely important with a home World Championship, it's not everyone who gets to experience that, says Hedman, who was part of the team in 2012 at the Globe Arena when Sweden was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

So the desire for revenge is quite large for me personally, says Victor Hedman.

Filip Forsberg also spoke warmly about a potential World Championship participation.

It's fantastically fun for Swedish hockey what's coming, the home World Championship, the Olympic Games, and the World Cup.

"Very disappointing"

Sweden did not lose a single match in regular time in Four Nations.

But two overtime losses were one too many.

It didn't even help to win over group winner USA, who will face Canada in the final.

It's of course very disappointing, it wasn't what we had hoped for. We'll learn from it. We know what it takes to win here. We were good enough to play a final, but now we're not doing it. The margins are so small, says Erik Karlsson.

National team coach Sam Hallam on Tre Kronor's overall performance:

We think our performance is okay. We grew into the Canada match and showed that we can play well against a tough team. We're disappointed about the match against Finland and winning today was a relief.

We like a lot of what we do, but we want to be a little better.
