"Waltz built the entire NSC's (National Security Council) communication process on Signal", says one of the sources.
Two of the sources claim to have participated in or have direct knowledge of at least 20 chats. All sources state that they have seen sensitive information being discussed in the chats.
This implies a more extensive use of Signal than previously reported, according to the news site. High-ranking officials within national security have warned that this approach may violate regulations on protecting sensitive national security information from foreign actors and federal laws on record-keeping.
As recently as Tuesday, information emerged that the national security adviser had used his private email in his work for the White House and the US President.
The whole thing started when it was revealed last week that Waltz had invited an American journalist to a group chat on Signal where ministers and top officials discussed military attacks on Yemen. Later in the week, it was also reported that mobile numbers, email addresses, and in some cases passwords of ministers and high-ranking Trump officials – including Waltz – could be found among hacked data dumped online.
