It is the crime writer Johanna Mo who has been commissioned to continue the book series about the police in Ystad, Dagens Nyheter writes.
"I just couldn't say no. This series is my tribute to Mankell," she tells the newspaper.
Henning Mankell died of cancer in 2015. His legacy has been managed by his son Jon Mankell, who gave the publishing house Norstedts the task of looking for the author who could give the Wallander stories a worthy continuation.
Two books have been commissioned by Norstedts so far. The first, "A Murderer's Heart," will be released this spring, where Kurt Wallander's daughter Linda is at the center, while Kurt himself is severely affected by dementia.
Next year will be something of a Wallander year with reissues and a new film adaptation of three of Mankell's books for TV4 with Gustaf Skarsgård in the lead role.
