President Donald Trump's statement that the war in Iran is "in its final stages" boosted stock markets - while oil prices fell.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 1.5 percent, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.3 percent, and the broad-based S&P 500 Index rose 1.1 percent.
Nvidia was due to release its quarterly report after the close, and, as usual, it's a temperature gauge for the entire AI sector. The stock rose 1.3 percent. Competitors like AMD, Intel, and Broadcom saw gains of 8.1, 7.4, and 1.6 percent, respectively.
Both US WTI and Brent crude had fallen about 5.7 percent by the close of trading in New York, to around $98 and $105 per barrel, respectively. US Treasury yields also fell.
