At the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index had each risen 1 percent, while the broad-based S&P 500 climbed 0.9 percent.
The trend reversal came after the price of oil eased slightly. At 10 p.m. on Friday, a barrel of North Sea oil cost just under $105.
Investors also do not currently seem concerned about the US inflation figures released on Friday, which showed inflation was unchanged at 2.4 percent in August, despite this leading analysts to increasingly expect a rate hike next week.
