Wednesday's interest rate announcement had no negative effect on the US stock market. For the third day in a row, Wall Street closed higher. The broad-based S&P 500 and the Nasdaq composite index both rose 0.3 percent, while the Dow Jones rose 0.2 percent.
The market had expected the Federal Reserve to hold off on raising interest rates, and that is what it did.
Among the winners on Wall Street today was Oracle, whose shares rose 11 percent after it presented a forecast that surpassed market expectations. After the close, Microsoft and Alphabet both reported new quarterly results. However, the two giants moved in opposite directions.
Microsoft rose in after-hours trading, while Alphabet fell by just over 7 percent.
