The Dow Jones industrial average rose 0.3 percent, the broad S&P 500 index rose 0.7 percent and the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite index rose 1.1 percent.

This marked a new record for the Dow, which closed above 53,000 points for the first time.

Last week was strong on Wall Street, even though AI-linked stocks lost ground.

Monday saw a recovery for many of these stocks.

Semiconductor companies Western Digital and AMD rose 7.1 and 6.6 percent, respectively. Qualcomm and Broadcom rose 5.8 and 3.7 percent, respectively.

"As long as they confirm that the fundamentals are strong, I think they can likely continue to climb slowly," says Anthony Saglimbene, chief strategist at research firm Ameriprise, about semiconductor stocks.
