Wall Street ends week higher as oil prices fall, Akamai and Costco rise

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 0.9 percent, while the broad S&P 500 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite both closed up 0.5 percent.

Falling oil prices helped to lift investor sentiment. Iran has said it is ready to open the Strait of Hormuz within a week, if certain conditions are met. The price of a barrel of North Sea oil (Brent) fell during the day and is now just over $104.

Cloud services company Akamai Technologies rose 3.2 percent after the company signed a multi-year agreement worth $11.6 billion with Anthropic, which develops the AI assistant Claude.

Retail giant Costco rose 2.9 percent after the company reported better-than-expected quarterly profit.
