On Wednesday, inflation figures were released in the US. Core inflation was in line with analysts' expectations. However, consumer prices rose slightly more than expected.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 0.2 percent, the tech-heavy Nasdaq fell 0.1 percent, while the broad S&P 500 index closed unchanged.
Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, rose 1.1 percent after the company reached a settlement with several US states earlier in the day after being accused of violating consumer protection and privacy laws.
Nvidia, which is due to report its quarterly results after the stock market closes, fell 1.6 percent.
