The broad S&P500 index rose 0.1 percent and the technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index increased 0.4 percent. The Dow Jones industrial index ended unchanged.

In the absence of economic statistics, investors focused on upcoming reports, spurred by the American telecom giant Verizon, which reported a better result than expected and whose share soared 4 percent.

On Wednesday, the first major tech reports will come, with quarterly figures from Google owner Alphabet and Elon Musk's electric car manufacturer Tesla.

It was also "The magnificent seven" that led the rise on the Nasdaq exchange. Alphabet stood out and the share advanced 2.8 percent. Facebook owner Meta and Amazon also had a good day. The shares rose by 1.2 and 1.4 percent, respectively. On the other hand, it went worse for Tesla, which fell back 0.4 percent.

Optimism on Wall Street also comes after the US Finance Minister Scott Bessent in an interview with CNBC said that the Trump administration is more interested in the quality of the tariff agreements than that they are rushed forward.

US President Donald Trump has previously threatened to introduce 30-percent tariffs on the majority of imports from the EU from August 1.
