Von Eckermann's direct hit - took revenge

Henrik von Eckermann took his first win at Strawberry arena over the weekend – clenched his fist in a victory gesture and beamed broadly. After Friday's second place, the feeling was extra sweet. There was no second place today. It was win or lose, he says in the victory interview.

Last Friday, Peder Fredricson won the initial show jumping event at Strawberry arena in Solna with a five-hundredth margin ahead of von Eckermann.

Now came the revenge.

At Calizi, the world number one was almost 1.4 seconds ahead of national team colleague Peder Fredricson, who rode Hansson WL.

What the victory on home turf at Sweden International Horse Show meant was unmistakable.

It was nice to cross the finish line, especially with this audience, says von Eckermann, basking in the jubilation and applause from the stands.

Scott Brash, Great Britain, ensured it wasn't an all-Swedish podium by taking third place, 16 hundredths ahead of Rolf-Göran Bengtsson in fourth place.

On Sunday, the big Grand Prix class in show jumping will be decided.
