Truck manufacturer Volvo is postponing the construction of a battery factory in Mariestad, reports SVT News West.
What we know today is that we are postponing the start of construction by somewhere between 12 and 24 months. We are slowing down the pace of work related to the start of construction, but otherwise, we are continuing with the project entirely according to plan, says the company's press chief Claes Eliasson to SVT.
The company refers to low demand for electric vehicles.
The start of production must match customer demand, says Jörgen Gustafsson, communications manager at Volvo Mariestad, to Mariestads-Tidningen.
The company will now review the timeline. Initially, the idea was to start construction in 2024 and have production up and running in 2028. The start of construction has already been postponed once, to 2025.
