The harsh words come in connection with the parties' talks in Hanover, where the company announced that agreements on, among other things, working hours and vacations will be terminated from January next year.
This is foul play against the workforce and yet another shameless attempt by Volkswagen to pick its employees' pockets, says Thorsten Gröger, negotiator at the IG Metall union, adding that the company has thereby “declared war”.
Volkswagen, which recently decided to lay off nearly 100,000 employees in the coming years, cites its decision as being due to "geopolitical tensions" and increasing competition from China, among other things.
