The volcano, which rises 1,584 meters above the sea, sent an ash column ten kilometers into the air on Tuesday. The authorities have raised the warning level to the highest.

Among the canceled flights are departures with Jetstar and Virgin Australia to several Australian cities. Even companies such as Air India, Air New Zealand, Tigerair and Juneyao Airlines have had to cancel flights, according to Bali's international airport.

The airport on Bali is still open, but departures are affected differently depending on route and airline.

Ash has fallen over several villages near the volcano and at least one village was evacuated on Tuesday. The country's disaster agency reports that the ground is still shaking, which indicates continued volcanic activity.

The authorities advise against all activities within seven kilometers from the crater, and warn of dangerous mudflows with volcanic material.

No personal injuries have been reported.

Lewotobi Laki-Laki had several eruptions also in November last year. Then nine people were killed, hundreds of international flights were canceled and thousands of people were forced to leave their homes.
